DEMEC Participates in Light Up Navajo VI

Over the last 6 days, DEMEC’s fifth crew of volunteer lineworkers, this year coming from the City of Newark and the City of Dover, have worked hard on the Navajo Nation supporting the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority and their Light Up Navajo project. This remarkable initiative brings electricity to homes in one of the most underserved areas in the country. Our guys were able to help 6 families flip the switch, flooding their homes with light.

Since 2019, our partnership with Light Up Navajo has connected many families to electricity, thanks to the compassion and commitment of public power crews from across Delaware and the nation. DEMEC is especially proud of its member community’s dedication and for volunteering their time and skills to make a real difference.

From navigating remote, rugged terrain, putting in long hours under the sun, and at times battling extreme weather conditions, the work can be tough—but the reward is immeasurable. There’s nothing quite like witnessing the joy of a family as they turn on their lights for the very first time.

We’re honored to be part of this life-changing effort, and we remain committed to lighting the way—one home at a time.
