24th Annual Members Dinner
The Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC) hosted their 24th Annual Members Dinner on September 19th, “The Power of Public Power”. Keynote speaker, General Manager Wally Haase of the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority, spoke about the mutual aid initiative “Light Up Navajo”. Over 15,000 families in the Navajo Nation (spanning 27,000 sq. miles across Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah) have never had electricity.
DEMEC President and CEO, Patrick McCullar, also spoke on the difference electricity makes and how we benefit from the decision communities made back in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s to provide electricity in the form of community-owned, public power. In addition, DEMEC was honored to recognize the achievements of so many of our member utilities and their staff as they received national recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for their excellence in reliability and safety. Over 100 people attended including elected officials, legislators, key accounts, and utility staff.
