DEMEC Reaches an Agreement with Bluewater Wind Delaware, LLC - May 2, 2007 |
DEMEC entered into an agreement with Bluewater Wind Delaware, LLC for the offshore wind energy generator to supply electricity, associated capacity, and related environmental attributes (also called Renewable Energy Credits) to DEMEC for 20 years. The contract is the first in the nation to provide for the purchase and delivery of energy from an offshore wind park and is valued between $200 million and $300 million over the life of the contract. “We are pleased to reach this agreement with Bluewater Wind. As a
provider of electricity to these nine municipalities in our state, we are committed to promoting the development and use of reliable green energy sources while we continue to provide lowest cost, reliable electric service,” said Patrick E. McCullar, the President and CEO of DEMEC today when announcing the agreement. “This agreement, when fully implemented, will be good for our communities and it will be good for the environment in Delaware. Our customers have been asking for this. It is as strong a win-win outcome for our citizens as I have ever seen.” (Full Press Release)

Standard & Poor's reaffirms DEMEC's 'A-' Credit Rating - March 8, 2007 |
| Standard & Poor's reaffirms Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation's credit rating at A-. In the rating report, S&P cited positive project revenues, good financial condition, and prudent management strategy in meeting the growing demands for electricity in Delaware. Patrick McCullar, DEMEC President & CEO, commented on the report. "The S&P rating reaffirms DEMEC's focus on good economics and prudent decision making to identify the most cost-effective strategy for meeting the increasing electric demand from our member communities both in the immediate future and over the long haul. DEMEC continues to deliver good value to our communities through market participation and efficient management of risk. DEMEC's business plan will continue to bring competitive reliable electric supply to its members while protecting their solid financial health." (Full report.) |

DEMEC Supports Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway (MAAP) - February 7, 2007 |
On February 7, 2007, DEMEC issued a press release supporting the Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway (MAAP). MAAP is a Transmission Project proposed by Pepco Holdings, Inc. This project represents the first significant transmission expansion in our region in over two decades. The proposed project would tie existing economic transmission and generation assets in the west to load centers on the Delmarva Peninsula. The project would provide much needed power supply and reliability to the region at the lowest cost and with the least environmental impact. (Full press release.)

DEMEC Launches New Green Energy Program -June 1, 2006 |
| Beginning June 1, 2006, DEMEC launched a new green energy program which fulfills requirements of the state's renewable portfolio standard. All customers will be assessed an additional state mandated charge of $0.000178 for each kwh they consume. Money collected will be used to support energy efficiency technologies, renewable energy technologies, or demand side management programs. In addition, DEMEC is offering its members a voluntary program for purchasing renewable energy under competitive rates. (more information) (Brochure - What Is Green Energy?) |
