DEMEC Member Recognized for Reliability

The Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC) is excited to announce that the New Castle Municipal Services Commission recently received a Certificate of Excellence from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for their reliability performance.

As one of only 120 public power utilities in the nation to receive this prestigious award, DEMEC is incredibly proud of the work New Castle has done to strengthen their reliability.

Public power utilities nationwide, including the New Castle Municipal Services Commission, use APPA’s eReliability Tracker to receive reliability-related benchmarking information to analyze outage information. Utilities were chosen by APPA through a comparison of their outage records and national data gathered by the Energy Information Administration (EIA). To receive a certificate of excellence, the utility had to be within the top 25% of utilities for the average length of outages annually per customer served.

DEMEC member communities have a history of providing top notch reliability. During severe storms like Hurricane Sandy, DEMEC members only had to measure their outages in hours, not days. Public power communities benefit from local service that can respond quickly during times of need. DEMEC is proud that, once again, its membership stands among the best.
