DEMEC Hosts 2018 Joint Council Briefing

The Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC) held its annual Joint Council Briefing for member communities’ councils/boards, local officials, and key account customers. Over 60 people were in attendance to hear about the latest on the electric industry and electric rate design. DEMEC’s membership spans the entire state of Delaware. Each year DEMEC hosts a briefing to update its members on the corporation’s achievements and programs, issues facing public power utilities, and regulatory changes. This year, DEMEC had a guest speaker, Dawn Lund from Utility Financial Solutions, to explain the importance of cost of service studies. Ms. Lund expressed that these studies ensure rates recover the costs to provide electric service to customers, defines the optimal rate structure between fixed and variable charges, and reduces cross-subsidization between rate classes.

DEMEC is committed to providing its members with reliable and economic power supply and providing necessary resources to help members be successful. As a Joint Action Agency, DEMEC represents its members in state and federal forums and uses economies of scale to procure competitively priced electric supply. Through the Joint Council Briefing, DEMEC can share with its members their latest efforts and achievements that benefit Delaware’s public power communities and provide training on important topics vital to the success of their utilities.
